Dolphins vs. Colts (Tannehill vs. Luck)

November 4, 2012

The Dolphins and Colts are among the league’s two most surprising teams in the league at 4-3. The No. 6 spot for the AFC is wide open and the winner of this game will have a leg up. People don’t understand how rare a match-up like this truly is.

This is the first time in NFL history two top 10 rookie quarterbacks have met up with winning records. It’s only the sixth match-up of top 10 rookie quarterbacks, period.

Perhaps this game isn’t getting the attention it deserves because people haven’t watched these two rookie quarterbacks much yet. They haven’t been on national TV.

Encouraging things about Tannehill:

1. He’s great at the little things. He changes plays at the line of scrimmage. He tries to quick snap the opposing defense at the right time. He can run the two-minute drill very effectively.

There were some jokes about Tannehill in HBO’s “Hard Knocks” after he didn’t know the NFL divisions, but he plays like a very sharp quarterback. The game doesn’t seem too fast for him.

2. He stands so tall in the pocket. There was criticism before the draft that Tannehill would take a while to get comfortable at the NFL level. Instead, he handles pressure beautifully. He ignores it.

3. He avoids mistakes. Tannehill didn’t throw an interception in October. This is a remarkable feat because Tannehill is very willing to make tough throws with his big arm. He goes to secondary receivers.

In any other season, Tannehill would be a huge story for his superlative play. Luck and RG3 have out-shined him, but they haven’t outplayed him by much, if at all.

Miami’s defense and offensive line are playing at a very high level. They are a better team overall than the Colts, so Luck will have to be at his very best to get a win at home Sunday.

My wife is due to have her baby literally any day now, so this might be the last time I check in for a while.   I will be back though.

Rams vs Dolphins – GAMEDAY Post

October 14, 2012

Today our Miami Dolphins have a chance to go 500 for the first time in a long time.  3-3 would be sweet and surprise a lot of people.  More importantly our QB looks to continue to progress and look like a solid pickup, hopefully for many years.  Rams Defensive backfield is tough though, and I think our D will need to help keep us in the game for the ultimate victory.  This could be a grind it out, grit your teeth, low scoring type of game.   If Miami’s offense can get as many yards against this Rams Defense as they have in previous games, that will say a lot and would make it an easy win.  Should be interesting.    I say 17-7 Dolphins win.

Raiders @ Dolphins – LIVE BLOG

September 16, 2012

ONWARD.

I’m still trying to get the last few minutes of the second quarter out of mind from last game.  But ready to move forward, and I’ve decided to wait to doom the team to a horrible loss in this one until the game is played.  Can Tannehill fix the tipped passes?  Mike Sherman says that is all on him, not the O-line.  Sherman thinks T-Hill needs to find the passing lanes better, and I tend to agree.  I think we need a BIG dose of Reggie Bush today!  Not only because he is starting for my Fantasy Football Team, “The Best Show on Paper”,  but also because I think it would be a good strategy for Miami to win.  He is the best play maker on offense, and the receivers don’t seem to be stepping up.  Bess looked pretty good, so I expect him to get some looks too.

Defense?  ATTACK Palmer and focus on stopping the run.  Raiders will be looking to get better production from McFadden and the running game since they struggled in that area in their loss last week.

Should be interesting to see who avoids going 0-2 to start the season.  Even though every talking head in America will have the Raiders easily handling the rebuilding Dolphins,  I pick the Phins to dig deep and win this one 17-10.

Hit it up in the comments section for some live blogging during the game.

Dolphins/Texans LIVE BLOG

September 9, 2012

Hey Fellow Fans,

The big day is finally here!  Regular season begins!

I’ll be rushing to get home in time to see the start of the game, so I wanted to get this post up and available for those who want to live blog during the game.

My advice for today?  (I’m telling myself this too by the way).  Don’t overreact.  The Texans are really good and the Dolphins are rebuilding.    Don’t overreact to our Rookie QB, he doesn’t have a whole lot of help around him right now.  I think we all expect our fellow fans to be realistic, and being critical is part of that.  I know if Miami struggles out of the gates it won’t be all rainbows and sunshine in here, including myself.    But if we struggle we do need to remember how our roster looks on paper, we aren’t even supposed to be that good right now.

But who knows, any given Sunday right!?!?!?!  Maybe our beloved fish give us some pleasant surprises and make it a fun game!

Direct TV is giving one free weekend of Sunday  Ticket this weekend, so I will be seeing all the plays live, just an FYI.

Today is what we’ve been waiting for.   Get your drinks ready and let’s do this thing.

Dolphins working out receivers today – including Stallworth

August 30, 2012

This shouldn’t be surprising.  As a big time (and obvious) need of the Dolphins, news is that they are working out several receivers today, including Donte Stallworth.

They should have been doing this all off-season honestly, but let’s be real, anybody they are picking up off waivers right now isn’t going to make a huge splash this season as a play maker.  They are just trying to get warm bodies out there right now.  Not to sound pessimistic, but that’s where we’re at right now.

Hopefully they find someone who is serviceable for a year.

Ryan Tannehill – 2012 Fins Starting QB

August 20, 2012

A New Era begins.

Well fellow Fins lovers, we have been in this position before (far too many times).  A new Quarterback has been named for the up coming season for the Miami Dolphins, rookie Ryan Tannehill.  He has looked promising in the pre-season up to this point, and in my opinion has earned the starting spot for the Dolphins this camp.

You will see many articles come out talking about how many QB’s the Fins have gone through since Marino retired in 99.  It is hard to blame them since it is such an easy (and lazy) story to write in this situation.  As fans I think we should use a form of selective hearing.  You know, when your wife or girlfriend is attempting to talk for like an hour during a game?  When the media babbles on about will RT be the next Miami QB to add to the list, I think we need to just nod our heads and pretend to listen while focusing in on each and every game, saving our criticism until we see this thing play out.  You all know I have been a Matt Moore supporter because I think he played well last year and he has been a great team player with the other QB’s during camp this year.  He needed to jump out and look better than Tannehill to keep the position and he just hasn’t done that yet.

Ryan Tannehill looks tough out there and the game doesn’t seem “too big” for him.  He seems to have the respect of his teammates already and is proving to work really hard at his craft.  He has made mistakes, he has telegraphed some passes and he has some room to learn.  That is what we call a ROOKIE.  As this season progresses let’s all remind ourselves that this is his first year playing and to look at the roster he is working with.  Who knows, maybe he will surprise us and make some of these younger receivers look better?  One thing is for sure; from what I’ve seen so far he will be working hard and giving everything he’s got for the team, whether you originally wanted him here or not.

How much will you be backing Tannehill this year?  Will you jump ship and be cheering for him to be benched with his first bad game?  Let’s be smarter and more logical than the feeding frenzy media and show what classy fans the Miami Dolphins really have.
